'I must be able to count on my crew'

In inland shipping, trust, flexibility and clear agreements are essential. For Harmen van Ewijk, skipper of the motor cargo vessel Dythar, that’s exactly why he’s been working with Goodcrew for years.

“I transport bulk goods. In this job, I have to be able to rely on my crew ánd the company behind them.”

Reliable crew on board

There’s always one Goodcrew team member on board the Dythar. “Usually it’s a helmsman. My regular crew member works eight months on, four months off. Others fill in during those four months. The tasks are always pretty much the same: maintenance, helping with loading, unloading, and mooring.”

Communication makes the difference

Life on board runs smoothly. “Communication with the people at Goodcrew is solid, even if something doesn’t go entirely as planned, they handle it professionally.” That open communication is, according to Harmen, one of Goodcrew’s biggest strengths. “There’s always someone to talk to, and they think along with you. They take their customers into account when it comes to staff changes and also when it comes to tariffs.”

Administrative support

A great example of that support is how they handle the admin side. “I don’t have to worry about a thing. They take care of everything related to leave, rotations and contracts. It saves me a lot of time and hassle.”

Long-term collaboration

The collaboration started five years ago. “I got in touch with Nico – and later with Patrick - through mutual contacts. From the first call, it was clear: here’s what we expect from you, and here’s what you can expect from us. That clarity still defines how we work together. We discuss everything.”

The trust goes beyond paperwork. “You build a real bond with the people who join you on board. Some crew members stay for years: you really get to know each other,” Harmen concludes. “After all, we’re literally stuck on board with each other all week!”
